A popular vendor at our annual Powwow, Belgian-born Hilde Barnes lives at Akwasasne Reserve with her husband, a Wolf Clan Mohawk, and their children. She has been working with quills, beads, and sweet grass for most of the 21 years she has lived on the Reserve.
When Hilde combines these three elements in her craft she is blending the spirituality of the plant world, the animal world, and the world of humankind.
Hilde is happy to have found this way to honor her family's culture, while at the same time producing items of beauty.
